3 separate food recalls issued for Alberta over health concerns

The Canada Food Inspection Agency issued three food recall warnings Saturday after separate incidents of food contamination across the country.

Three separate recalls affecting regions across Canada have been issued for a total of 22 products, including but not limited to the products picture above. (Canadian Food Inspection Agency)

The Canada Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued three food recall warnings Saturday after separate incidents of food contamination across the country.

As of 10:30 a.m. MT, Alberta and British Columbia were the only provinces affected by all three recalls, while two recalls impact people living in Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec.

Below are the following items being recalled.

Reshine Trading Ltd. imitation meats

A food recall warning issued May 29 has been updated to include additional product information. The addition information was identified during the CFIA's food safety investigation.

Reason for recall: Items contain undeclared egg, milk and mustard and may pose a risk to people with allergies to those ingredients.

Total number of items being recalled: 14

Brands affected: Chin Hsin, Reshine

Uncle T Food Ltd. Ben Tre brand coconut candy

Uncle T Food Ltd. is recalling Ben Tre brand coconut candy because it contains peanuts which are not declared on the label. People with an allergy to peanuts should not consume the recalled product and anyone who has already purchased the product should throw it out or return it to the store.

Reason for recall: Item contains undeclared peanuts. A consumer complaint triggered the recall and the CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.

Total number of items being recalled: One

Brands affected: Ben Tre

Various sprouted chia seed products

Advantage Health Matters and Back 2 the Garden are recalling various products containing sprouted chia seeds due to possible salmonella contamination. 

Reason for recall: The items may be contaminated with salmonella. The recall was triggered by a CFIA investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak.

Total number of items affected: Seven

Brands affected: Organic Traditions, Back 2 the Garden
