Vancouver Sun Run hits the road for 33rd time with 40,000 runners
Some road closures along 10-kilometre route will be in effect from 5 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. PT
For the 33rd time, thousands of runners are coursing through downtown Vancouver to participate in annual Vancouver Sun Run.

Race organizers say that nearly 40,000 people registered for the Sunday's race. The rain held off through the morning a runners queued at the start line.

The event began at Georgia and Thurlow Streets at 9 a.m. PT. It loops through Stanley Park, runs along Beach Avenue, crosses the Burrard Street Bridge and comes back along 6th Avenue.
Runners wrap up by crossing the Cambie Street bridge and heading for the finish line outside BC Place.

The Salvation Army was at the start area, collecting clothing donations from runners who want to shed extra layers as they go.
