Vancouver Sun Run draws more than 43,000 runners to downtown race

The 32nd edition of Canada's biggest road race featured packed crowds on downtown streets as Vancouver Sun Run organizers say 43,372 signed up for the annual event. 

The race attracted the usual mix of professional runners, workout warriors and costumed characters. The 10-km course began on Georgia St., wound its way through the West End and across the Burrard Bridge into Kitsilano before heading east to wrap up outside BC Place. 

Eric Gillis of Guelph, Ont. won the elite men's race in a time of 28:53. Lanni Marchant of Chattanooga, Tenn. crossed the line in 32:16 to capture first place in the elite women's race.
