Charges laid in hit-and-run that killed skateboarder in Vancouver
Police say charges come after 32-month investigation
A Vancouver resident has been charged in a hit-and-run that claimed the life of a skateboarder more than two years ago.
Police said Amanpreet Sohal, 23, has been charged with failure to stop at an accident causing bodily harm and dangerous driving causing death.
Ryan Barron, 30, was skateboarding with a friend on Heather Street near West 54th Avenue when he was hit in the early hours of April 17, 2016.
Barron was taken to hospital, where he later died.
In a statement, police said they located the vehicle believed to be involved in the incident at a home in East Vancouver two days later.
"Our collision investigators worked tirelessly on this complex, lengthy and difficult investigation, and we are pleased charges have been laid," Const. Jason Doucette said Thursday.
Barron was originally from Windsor, Ont. He had moved to the West Coast to find work and was out celebrating a promotion when he was killed.
A plaque in Barron's honour is installed at Windsor's Atkinson Skate Park.
