Vancouver police have located the vehicle they believe was being driven when a 30-year-old skateboarder was hit in the 6900 block of Heather Street in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Ryan Barron was hit while skateboarding with a friend and later died in hospital. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene.

Police said Thursday they located the car in a garage at a home in East Vancouver, not far from the scene of the collision.

They had no information as to the owner of the car, or whether the owner was the driver involved, and said they are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, and the identity of the person driving.

Police had been looking for a silver Mitsubishi.

Barron's friend, Vince Man, told CBC News that Barron had been given a promotion at work on Friday.

"He was happy because he said he had finally caught a break," said Man.

He said that Barron lived in the area and believes he took the route on his skateboard because he felt it was safe.

Meanwhile other neighbours told CBC that cars are often seen speeding through the neighbourhood.
