Vancouver outdoor pools open Victoria Day long weekend
Beaches lifeguards, park rangers will also be on duty starting May 16
Ready for some water fun? Vancouver's outdoor pools will open this Victoria Day long weekend.
The heated seaside pools at Kitsilano Beach Park, Second Beach in Stanley Park and New Brighton Park open on May 16. However, Maple Grove Pool in Kerrisdale will open on June 20.
"The Park Board is improving the swimming experience by installing windbreaks next week at both Kitsilano and Second Beach pools," said Vancouver Park Board chair John Coupar. "They'll protect swimmers from prevailing winds, as well as reduce heat loss and greenhouse gas emissions at the pools."
Last year the windscreens reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 220 metric tonnes — the equivalent of removing 46 cars from roads, according to the city.
Beach lifeguards and park rangers will also be on duty starting this weekend. The lifeguards will patrol the city's supervised bathing beaches from Victoria Day to Labour Day from approximately 11:30 am to 8:30 pm daily, except when the red light is on at the Lifeguard Station.
