Trans-Canada reopens after landslide

The Trans-Canada Highway reopens to traffic following a huge landslide in B.C.'s Fraser Canyon.

The Trans-Canada Highway reopened to traffic on Saturday evening following a huge landslide in B.C.'s Fraser Canyon.

As of about 4:30 p.m. PT, one lane of the road was opened up to alternating traffic, with officials predicting 20-minute delays in the area.

The highway was shut down on Friday afternoon after a slide came down on the highway about one kilometre east of the Yale Tunnel, covering the road with debris.

Officials initially estimated the road would reopen by 9 p.m. Friday, but that changed after crews assessed the stability of the slide area.

It is not clear when the second lane of the highway will reopen.
