A 16-year-old boy who was arrested in connection with an attack on a young female in a Vancouver nightclub bathroom Sunday night has now been charged with aggravated sexual assault and forcible confinement.

"There's not a lot I can tell you, obviously. We have a youth suspect and we're dealing with a sexual assault so we're not providing a lot of information," said  Const. Brian Montague of the Vancouver Police Department.

"There's lots of witnesses. There's lots of video," he said. "It's not something we see a lot of in Vancouver. We do have, unfortunately, a large number of sexual assaults. They don't often get to this level of violence."

Montague says the suspect remains in custody.

Police were called to the Encore Dance Club on Granville Street just after 11:00 p.m. PT. Sunday night. The club was hosting a private party at the time of the incident.

The underage victim was transported to hospital in stable condition. Police called the attack targeted.
