A man is in custody after a shooting and four-hour standoff with police on Saturday night in Surrey.

RCMP were called to the 1300 block of 176 Street just after 7:00 p.m.

One man had allegedly been shot by another man who was still nearby. Police negotiators and the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team were called to help find the suspect.

The suspect was arrested by midnight.

"With the help of the negotiators we were able to successfully take this person into custody without further risk to the public or injury to him," said RCMP Cpl. Scotty Schumann. "That's a best case scenario for us."

The victim was transported to hospital in stable condition.

Investigators believe that the incident was targeted and that the men knew each other.
