Surrey crash sends 2 to hospital, closes 152 Street

Surrey RCMP are investigating a crash that sent two people to hospital and closed down a main street in Surrey, early Thursday morning.

Police say one man is in serious condition, and a woman is also injured.

Surrey RCMP are investigating a crash that sent two people to hospital and closed down a main street, early Thursday morning.

It happened just after 3 a.m. in the 8400 block of 152 Street.

A car, with a man and woman inside, apparently careened southbound down 152 Street, leaving debris on the road before smashing sideways into a lamp pole on the northbound side of the street.

When first responders arrived, the man was still trapped inside the vehicle, but firefighters said they were able to free him quite quickly.

Surrey RCMP Sgt. Dave MacDonald said police were trying to figure out which of the two occupants was actually driving the vehicle.

The street was closed while police investigated the crash. Police officers could be seen poring over the accident scene, even reaching into waste bins near the crash.

The Surrey RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team will handle the case, but the crash wasn't the result of any police activity, said MacDonald.

It was too early to say whether speed or alcohol played any part in the crash, he said Thursday morning.
