Coquihalla Highway: 30 centimetres of snow forecast

Heavy snowfall is making driving treacherous along the Coquihalla as crews scramble to keep the roadway clear.

Environment Canada issues snowfall alerts for Fraser Valley/Canyon, Nicola and North Columbia Regions

Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings for the Coquihalla Highway (Highway 5) from Hope to Merritt as up to 30 centimetres of powder is expected to fall by Sunday night.

Snowfall warnings have also been issued for the following regions:

A low pressure weather system continues to make its way across the southern portion of British Columbia, bringing heavy snow.

However, Environment Canada says a large accumulation is no longer expected for Highway 3 from the Paulson Summit to the Kootenay Pass.

Still it's advising drivers to take precautions on snowy roads and use winter tires and chains.
