The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called to a suspicious death in Surrey's Newton neighbourhood.

RCMP found an unresponsive adult in a laneway near the 6900 block of 127A Street just before 5:30 a.m. on Sunday. A statement said the person later died of their injuries and their death is being treated as suspicious.

IHIT did not say what kind of injuries the person had suffered or if the incident was targeted.

The area around the laneway will be taped off for "a significant amount of time" Sunday as investigators gather evidence.

Anyone with information about the death is asked to call the IHIT tipline at 1-877-551-4448 or email at ihittipline@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
