An international student has died after an incident last month at a swimming pool in Mission, B.C.

A statement on Mission's website said the young man was involved in a "near-drowning" a Mission Leisure Centre on April 21.

Lifeguards administered CPR and the student was taken to hospital but died later.

"It is with heavy hearts that we share that the young man has now passed away," a representative from the District of Mission wrote Friday.

The complex has two pools, a hot tub, a waterslide and a sauna. It's not clear whether or not the student was on a school trip.
