Fundraiser for murder victim Bradley McPherson
Proceeds will go toward scholarships at two high schools
A fundraiser in memory of a man killed on Christmas Eve two years ago was held at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds Saturday.
Bradley McPherson, 28, died after he was shot at a house party in Surrey in 2011. So far, one man has been charged in connection with his death.
On Saturday, Susan Simning took to the stage to remember her son.
"He had hot wheels and a car mat and he would just lay it down in the middle of the living room and play with the hot wheels. My grandson Lincoln does the same thing now," she said.
"So I figure what better way to celebrate and honour my son than to throw him his own show and shine."
The fundraiser featured welcoming cars, trucks and motorbikes, along with live entertainment, a beer garden silent auction and a 50/50 draw.
Simning said she hoped to raise $10,000 from the all-day event.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward scholarships for students at two schools – North Delta Secondary, where McPherson graduated, and Clayton Heights Secondary, where his sister is graduating next June.
Because her son had attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, the scholarships will go to kids with similar learning needs, Simning said.
