Evergreen Line construction blamed for another sinkhole
Another two-metre wide sinkhole has opened up on the Evergreen Line in Port Moody on Friday evening.
The sinkhole has been fenced off and Clarke Road is closed at Seaview Drive while Evergreen crews investigate, according to a tweet from the B.C. Transportation Ministry.
This the fourth sinkhole to open up on the underground line and slow tunnel boring is being blamed.
Evergreen line spokeswoman Amanda Farrell says crews were working in the area when they saw a depression in the roadway and it opened up as they approached it.
Crews intend to fill the hole on Saturday morning and hope to have the work completed by the afternoon.
The boring machine is about halfway through the tunneling process with 54 per cent of the project completed. There is still one more kilometre left to bore and the project isn't expected to be opened until 2016.
