The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says a 21-year-old man with no fixed address has been charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of a well-known Langley homeless man.

David Christopher Van Den Brink was arrested soon after police responded to reports of a fight near the Baselines Pub and Langley Hotel on the 20300-block of Fraser Highway on Monday evening.

Wells Tony Gallagher, 37, was found on the sidewalk suffering from critical injuries. Police said he was treated by paramedics, but could not be saved.

"Multiple witnesses came forward to provide information to police. This community support, coupled with the partnership between IHIT and Langley RCMP, is responsible for investigators obtaining charge approval quickly," said IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Stephanie Ashton in a statement.

Police say Van Den Brink is known to them and that the attack was targeted.
