Charges laid in Vancouver's 17th homicide

Vancouver police say the husband of a 58-year-old woman found dead in her home Tuesday has now been charged with second-degree murder.

Vancouver police say the husband of a 58-year-old woman found dead in her home on Tuesday has been charged with second-degree murder.

John Donald Thomas, 71, will remain in custody pending his upcoming court appearance on Aug. 6, police said Wednesday in a release.

Police earlier in the day identified the woman as Theresa Thomas, whose body was found in an apartment in the 2300 block of West Fifth Avenue in the Kitsilano neighbourhood.

Police said they made the discovery after receiving a 911 call from the apartment just after noon.

The cause of death has not been released.

Police said this is the city's 17th homicide of the year.
