B.C. storm stops ferries, flights, power
A severe storm is rolling across B.C., forcing the cancellation of two ferries, cutting power to thousands and dumping snow across the Interior regions of the province.
On Wednesday morning, B.C. Ferries cancelled the 9 a.m. PT sailing from Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen and the 11 a.m. PT sailing from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay, but no other sailings were cancelled later in the day.
Environment Canada says wind gusts reached 100 km/h on the coast. Ten to 20 centimetres of snow are forecast for central and northern Interior regions.
BC Hydro reported about 15,000 customers across the province were without power on Wednesday morning. Across much of northern and central B.C., bitterly cold winds blew snow onto slippery roadways, making driving treacherous.
At least one school in Prince George closed for the day and some morning flights out of Prince George, Castlegar and Quesnel were cancelled.
