About 3,500 customers on Vancouver Island were still without power at noon on Tuesday and maintenance crews were working hard to clear broken branches and fallen trees from many roads across the island.

BC Hydro is hoping to restore service for most areas by late Tuesday afternoon, but there could be more damage on the way farther north up the coast.

Environment Canada is forecasting winds of up to 100 kilometres an hour for Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast, Haida Gwaii, and the Central and North Coast regions overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday morning.
