What made this case unique?
The Twitchell investigation involved more than 100 police officers and was one of the largest in Edmonton's history.
The trial was one of the most widely-reported in Canadian history, attracting heavy international media attention. Everyone wanted to catch a glimpse of "The Dexter Killer."
The case set a precedent for how to smoothly conduct high-profile trials in Canada. In order to balance fairness with a huge public interest, the judge set up the media in a separate courtroom, with a live audio feed — a practice that now serves as a precedent to justify public access to other high-profile cases across the country.
