A three-year-old boy is found wandering the streets. Two dead bodies are discovered inside an apartment. 

Detective Don Forgan forms a close bond with the young witness of a horrific double murder. "I'm gonna try and catch the bad man," he promises.

Looking back on the most disturbing case of his career, he says, "it nearly broke me."

What made this case unique?

This case gave insight into the fact that the lack of a palm print registry was a roadblock to identifying the killer. In 2013, the RCMP created a palm print registry similar to a fingerprint registry.

About the detective

Retired Detective Don Forgan worked for 35 years for the Hamilton Police Service in such departments as Forensic Identification, Child Abuse Branch and Homicide. In 2010 he was awarded the Ontario Homicide Investigators Association Award of Merit. He retired in 2011.
