'I'm lighting up my Kanata House like a big birthday cake'
The man behind Windsor's most patriotic house is celebrating Canada's 150th birthday in style.
"Kanata House" is located just south of Erie Street on Lincoln Road.
For 20 years, owner Dan Beaudoin — known to most people as "Canada Dan" — has decked out his residence in red and white, with a growing number of Canadian symbols, including maple leaves and inukshuks adorning it year-round.
To mark Canada's 150th birthday, Beaudoin has been busy getting his iconic red, Canada-themed truck ready for the Canada Day parade and gave his house a new coat of red and white paint.
While thinking of a way to make this year extra special, Beudoin said he had a moment of inspiration — a light bulb went off, make that many light bulbs.
"I'm lighting up my 'Kanata House' like a big birthday cake," Beaudoin explained. "The lights are going to be dancing to the music — actually, they're going to be dancing to the national anthem."
Every year, he invites family, friends and neighbours to his house to celebrate the nation's birthday and this year is no exception.
"I'll have cake, ice cream — and fireworks," Beaudoin said. "Hey, we're all Canadian; lets have some fun on Canada's day!"
