Man dead after crash with dump truck in Stouffville, police say

A man is dead after a two-vehicle collision involving a dump truck at an intersection in Stouffville, Ont., Thursday afternoon, police say. They say it’s the second serious collision involving a dump truck in the region in just over a week.

Police say weather may have been a factor in collision northeast of Toronto

A man is dead after a two-vehicle collision involving a dump truck at an intersection in Stouffville on Thursday afternoon, police say.

York Regional Police responded to reports that a dump truck struck a sedan at the intersection of Kennedy and Bethesda roads around noon, Const. James Dickson said Thursday.

The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene, Dickson said. The driver of the dump truck stayed on the scene and was taken to hospital as a precaution, he said.

Dickson didn't provide any more details about either driver.

Police are still trying to determine what happened, Dickson said, but driving conditions may have played a factor.

"That area particularly can get pretty nasty this time of year and we have had quite some weather today," Dickson said. "It's fairly concerning as well that this is the second incident involving a dump truck we've had in the last week."

On the afternoon of Nov. 25, a dump truck struck four oncoming vehicles in East Gwillimbury, about 30 kilometres northwest of Stouffville, according to a police release from last week. No one was killed in that incident, police said, but three of the drivers were taken to hospital.

Investigators are asking anyone with dashcam footage of the area from around noon Thursday, or who may have other video or information related to the crash, to come forward.
