Limited dining, shopping on waterfront for at least 2 years
Thunder Bay's Prince Arthur's Landing slow to develop, city says
It may be two years before visitors to Prince Arthur's Landing on Thunder Bay's waterfront will have more choices for shopping and dining.
The market-square building, designed for retail and restaurant space, won't open until after the condominiums and hotels are built by the developer.
"[I am] looking forward to the day when we've got more than one-stop shopping, but that's the way we are right at the moment," said Greg Alexander, the city's manager of community and emergency services.
He said there are two places to eat at the waterfront, but he looks forward to the day when there are more options.
Alexander said the city has been unable to find a business interested in operating an ice cream stand in the paddleboat pavilion.
"It doesn't have water and that, so it made operation in there a little bit challenging," he said.
The developer needs to finish the hotel and condos before building the market-square area, Alexander said. The developer is scheduled to have the condos occupied by late 2014.
