Kenora residents on alert for imminent flooding

The mayor of Kenora says his community is keeping a close watch on rising waters.

David Canfield said residents and city officials are monitoring levels on area waterways as outflow continues downstream from Rainy Lake.

The city has made sandbags available for residents in at-risk areas but, he said, right now all anyone can do is watch.

"If it comes up another foot, we're in trouble," he said.

"If it starts to recede, we're going to luck out, but it's a wait-and-see."

Canfield said he's not aware of any critical facilities or infrastructure in Kenora that's at risk, should water levels rise.

However, emergency measures personnel are on standby.
