TNO's annual community show gets ready to hit the stage in Sudbury
Denant le Jukebox features 8 Sudbury authors and 30 actors
Eight Sudbury authors have teamed up with 30 local actors to bring to life stories of people's favourite love songs.
The Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario is getting ready to launch its annual community show. It's called Devant le jukebox, a story about an abandoned jukebox that gets uncovered to share stories it has seen throughout the years.
"So it's kind of like time travelling," said Maxime Cayoutte, a writer and actor in the production.
"We don't travel through time, but we see stories from different eras."
Cayoutte says the show will feature work from newer actors to those who work professionally.
"The point of the community plays is community," he said.
"So even if there's different scales of experience on stage, we are all brought together. We all raise each other up."
Also to be featured in the production is Sudbury's mayor, Paul Lefebvre.
"I saw him do the dance for the first time two days ago and it was so good," Cayoutte said. "He's actually amazing."
The director Hélène Dallaire said working on the show was the "fruit of a collective effort that brought to life local situations, characters and emotions."
"The ambition for this show was to create a space where laughter, music and emotion meet and where the audience can recognize itself."
Performances for the general public will take place on Jan. 30 and 31 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 1 at 2:30 p..m. and 7:30 p.m. English subtitles will be available for the Jan. 31 performance.
