A Saskatoon repair company has been fined more than $90,000 in relation to a fatal 2018 workplace incident.

On July 31, 2018, an employee was injured as he was fixing a strap on a truck box's hydraulic cylinder at Basic Truck & Trailer Repair on Apex St.

The strap broke, causing the truck box to fall onto the man.

The 61-year-old died in hospital.

Basic Truck & Trailer Repair was charged with three counts of violating the province's occupational health and safety legislation in connection with the incident.

The province's Ministry of Labour Relations said in a news release Tuesday that the company pleaded guilty to a single charge in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Feb. 3, 2021. The two other charges were stayed.

The court imposed a fine of $65,000 with a $26,000 surcharge for a total of $91,000.
