A woman was taken to hospital in critical condition Saturday afternoon following a crash on St. Laurent Boulevard, paramedics say.

In a social media post at 3:10 p.m., Ottawa police said they'd closed the busy artery in both directions between Innes and Lancaster roads.

The damaged vehicle ended up on the sidewalk next to the road, flipped on its roof.

Hydro Ottawa said the car had struck a "primary conductor," leading to a power outage affecting roughly 570 customers in the Alta Vista area.

It would likely be around 9 p.m. before power was fully restored, the utility said.
