Ferries cancelled, airlines issue advisories ahead of winter storm

A storm expected to begin Friday night is already causing travel disruptions.

A winter storm expected to blanket Nova Scotia with snow has prompted travel advisories and cancellations across the the Maritimes. 

Ferries travelling to Newfoundland from North Sydney have been cancelled. The ferries headed from P.E.I. to Nova Scotia have also been cancelled.

WestJet provided travel advisories for flights scheduled on Friday and Saturday at Halifax Stanfield International Airport. Air Canada says flights "may be impacted by forecasted winter operational conditions" on Friday and Saturday at all airports in the region. 

Halifax Regional Municipality announced Friday that its overnight winter parking ban would be in effect from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. Vehicles obstructing snow-clearing operations could be towed.

All branches of Halifax Public Libraries will delay opening until 2 p.m. on Saturday. 

HRM also announced the Halifax Public Gardens would be closed Saturday for winter storm cleanup.
