After an investigation spanning nearly five months, Nova Scotia RCMP say they've charged a 21-year-old man with murder following the sudden death of a 66-year-old man last August.

Police said in a news release that Samuel Isaac Robar of Bear River, N.S., was arrested Wednesday at a property on Mary Jane Riley Road in Bear River shortly before 10 a.m. AT.

The deceased was found at a home on Virginia Road in Virginia East, about 15 kilometres south of Annapolis Royal, on Aug. 31, 2024.

The following day police said they were investigating his death as a homicide.

RCMP said the second-degree murder charge comes following an investigation that involved six different crime scenes and interviews with over 100 different people.

Police said the investigation has been assisted by multiple RCMP detachments in Nova Scotia, along with RCMP in Newfoundland and Labrador, Alberta, and Prince Edward Island.

The two men knew each other, being from the same area, police said. The incident is not believed to have been random.

Robar appeared in court Thursday morning and remains in custody, police said.

He will next appear in Digby provincial court on Jan. 30.
