People living in Sanirajak, Nunavut, should boil their water until further notice after bacteria was found in a water test result, the territory's Department of Health says.

In a release issued Tuesday afternoon, the department said the advisory is a safety measure.

All water for consumption should be brought to a rolling boil for a minimum of one full minute.

Water used for the following should be boiled: drinking, preparing infant formulas, preparing juices and ice cubes, washing fruits and vegetables, cooking and brushing teeth.

Water can be boiled in a pot kettle on the stove or in an electric kettle without an automatic shut off.

The department said it will send out another notice when the advisory is lifted.
