St. John's mayor wants crime-fighting plan put in place
St. John's Mayor Dennis O'Keefe wants to form a new committee to tackle crime in the city.
St. John's Mayor Dennis O’Keefe wants to form a new committee to tackle crime in the city.
O'Keefe says recent incidents like the drive-by shooting in Kenmount Terrace last month highlight the need.
He wants the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, Neighbourhood Watch, and other groups to take part.
"The bottom line is to address the issue of crime and crime prevention in the city and bring everybody who is involved in that together to come up with a strategic action plan," O’Keefe said.
O'Keefe will seek approval for the committee at Tuesday night’s regular meeting of council.
"We have a very safe city, but we can always make it safer," the mayor said.
