Organizer Eugene Trickett says high advance sales will convince curling association the bid is serious

St. John's is hoping to host some rock stars of the curling world in 2017 by putting in a bid for the Tim Hortons Brier, the national men's curling championship.

Since Mile One Centre in St. John's would be a smaller home for the event than usual, organizer Eugene Trickett said he's asking people to put their money up in advance to prove the bid is serious.

"It really shows a strong message to the CCA [Canadian Curling Association] that if we can get to a certain number," he said. "And then when you throw that on with tickets you are going to sell for opening and closing weekend and individual tickets, we're going to have a lot of seats sold for this event."

The deposit  — $50 on a full event pass — will be non-refundable if St. John's is successful in its bid for the Brier.
