4 Newfoundlanders make Special Olympics Team Canada
Four Newfoundlanders have cracked the Team Canada roster for the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games.
Justin Dodge, Floressa Harris, Sandra Smith and Crystal Young have all been named to the snowshoeing team, which will head to Europe next year.
"It's excellent," said Young "I'm on top of the world, excited."
"It's my first worlds."
The games run from from March 14 to 25, 2017 in Austria.
All four of the athletes won gold medals in snowshoeing at the Canada 2016 Winter Games held in Corner Brook in March.
Smith and Young compete for the Trinity-Conception Gentle Giants. Dodge competes in Grand Bank, and Harris in Gander.
Young started competing in snowshoeing in 2006, she says, because it's great exercise and competition.
The first training camp for the group starts in May in Ontario.
