It's the final gardening episode of the year, and the final time The Signal's super-guest Ross Traverse is gracing the airwaves — period.

Ross Traverse made his name in the garden, but his fame really blossomed on the radio. For 50 years, Traverse has been taking calls and answering questions on CBC Radio's gardening call-in show. On Tuesday, Traverse sat down at the mic for the last time — and instead of questions, listeners called in to say thanks.

Bouquets were the order of the day on CBC Radio's The Signal on Tuesday, which is not unusual for its weekly gardening show.

But this episode was a little different, and the bouquets were not actual flowers, either.

It was not only the final gardening episode of the year, but more importantly the final time super-guest Ross Traverse was gracing the airwaves — period.

Traverse, an author and a champion of horticulture, ran his own successful business in Torbay. He's also part of the Atlantic Agriculture Hall of Fame and has 50 years of radio advice on gardening, to boot. He has answered countless queries for listeners of Radio Noon, CrossTalk and now The Signal
