Gas price drops for first time in 5 weeks across N.L.
Gas down 3.1 cents
Gas prices went down just over three cents per litre across Newfoundland and Labrador Thursday.
The Public Utilities Board lowered the maximum price for the fuel by 3.1 cents per litre, marking the first time since the end of December gas prices have dropped. The change puts the maximum price for gas on the Avalon Peninsula at $1.70 per litre.
Elsewhere in the province, maximum prices range between $1.70 and $1.87 across the rest of Newfoundland and between $1.73 and $2.16 per litre across Labrador.
The cost of most other fuels also dropped.
Diesel decreased by 5.6 cents per litre. The change puts maximum prices between $1.96 and $2.08 per litre in Newfoundland and between $1.81 and $2.25 per litre in Labrador.
The price of stove oil decreased by over 4.8 cents per litre, meaning customers in Newfoundland will pay a maximum price between $1.28 and $1.47 per litre depending on their location.
Stove oil decreased by over 4.7 cents per litre across much of the province, except by 4.9 cents per litre in Labrador West and Churchill Falls. That puts maximum prices between $1.27 and $1.45 per litre across Newfoundland and between $1.20 and $1.49 per litre in Labrador.
Propane was the lone fuel to increase in price, up 2.6 cents per litre. Customers will now pay between $1.12 and just over $1.25 per litre for the fuel in Newfoundland, and between 99 cents and $1.43 per litre in Labrador.
This week's pricing adjustment comes days after the PUB announced it will slowly increase the base price for petroleum products starting on Feb. 6.
Most zones, such as the Avalon Peninsula, will eventually see a total retail markup of four cents per litre.
After the retail markup increases are implemented, a zone differential increase will be applied in equal amounts over two weeks.
There will be no changes to wholesale pricing of gasoline, diesel or furnace oil.
