One of the newest listings to hit the St. John's housing market belongs to a property that may just be the oldest in the city.

A listing for the historic Richmond Hill site was posted to a local Re/Max website Saturday afternoon.

The home, listed as a residential dwelling, is being sold for $350,000 though real estate agent Paul Fowler.

The west end property was first built as a merchant house back in 1848. It was given a stay of execution Tuesday through an agreement between the city and property owners Wrightland Development Corporation.

Described in the ad as 7,950 square feet with hardwood floors, the Richmond Hill cottage sits on one-third acre of land.

While the home is available "for purchase and restoration," all plans "must meet neighbourhood standards" and planning approval is required from the Built Heritage Expert Panel.

According to the listing, the exterior of the home can only be altered with approval from the City of St. John's.

No photographs from inside the home were provided, but the building boasts six full bathrooms, two partial bathrooms and four bedrooms.
