Garbage in Gros Morne: Man upset after finding debris while out hunting
A man out moose hunting in Gros Morne National Park over the weekend found a nasty surprise when he discovered an area filled with burned debris, old electronics, furniture and scrap metal.
Jason Lewis found the wreckage off a service road near the Lomond campground.
"It's a privilege to have a national park in our province and to see this type of activity being carried out is just not acceptable," Lewis told CBC's Corner Brook Morning Show Tuesday.
"It made me ask the question, who would do such a thing?"
Lewis believes the waste is more than just an environmental hazard — he thinks it could also be dangerous.
"Someone could go in there, there could be nails on the boards, and step on the nails and injure themselves. It's just not a good situation all around," he said.
"It's drawing bears. I've seen numerous piles of bear scat there."
He said he would like to see the mess cleared up and the perpetrators reprimanded.
Parks Canada told CBC News they are currently looking into the situation.
