Doughnuts for Dragons: Snack sales to help cancer survivors
Adam's Mini Donuts at St. John's Farmer's Market today
Adam's Mini Donuts is a regular vendor at the St. John's Farmer's Market, but the owners are setting up shop today for a purpose other than business.
Co-owner Derek Strong will hand over all proceeds to the Avalon Dragons, a group of cancer survivors raising money to build an aquatic facility at Octagon Pond in Paradise.

Strong's sister Marie Hickey, who was diagnosed with cancer 15 years ago and is in good health, is a member of the Avalon Dragons.
"It's not hard tor recognize the efforts Marie and the Avalon Dragons are making. So we tried to figure out a way that we can assist in some way," Strong said .
One day of doughnut sales is such a small gesture for what they are accomplishing- Derek Strong
As opposed to the larger Paddle in Paradise fundraiser, Strong said selling doughnuts today will take a lot less effort.
"I wasn't surprised because that's the type of people Derek and his family are, they're very generous anyway," said Hickey.
"I was really excited to hear because I knew the girls would be on top of it, they would be all over it."
Hickey said this year's festival was the best year ever with over $60,000 raised. Strong is hoping to add on to that total when he sets up shop this morning.

"How could we not help them with their goals?" Strong said of cancer survivors like his sister.
"One day of doughnut sales is such a small gesture for what they are accomplishing."
