Carbonear goes crazy over new store Crazy Binz

A new store on the Avalon Peninsula is drawing in plenty of traffic as people search for a good deal.

Crazy Binz sells Amazon returns and Wayfair furniture for a fraction of the price

A new shop in Carbonear is the new craze in town, and it claims to have the best deals around the bay.

Crazy Binz, known as Around The Bay Deals on social media, offers customers a treasure hunt shopping experience.

The store has rows of wooden boxes filled with new and returned items from Amazon.

Marguerite McCarthy, co-owner of Crazy Binz, told CBC News she has sold big-ticket items like industrial-grade mixers, bar fridges, coffee machines and microwaves for under $50.

Smaller items like clothing, phone accessories, and household items are sold for even less.

"I had a lady here yesterday, actually. She got a pair of shoes. She got them for $5. She couldn't believe they were $5 So I said, 'Yes, my darling, they are $5,'" McCarthy said. "She was really happy about it,"

The prices of the items in the bins change daily. Their pricing schedule starts on Saturday when all items in the bins are sold for $25. Throughout the week, prices go down, and items change. Fridays are their dollar and $2.50 days.

"Customers love it when they get a deal," McCarthy said.

On Saturdays, the store often has a line that reaches neighbouring businesses.

"The first morning we opened, actually, we were lined up from this door out to the road, and we get lineups to the dentist's office," McCarthy said. "We opened here on the 28th of September, and it's been crazy ever since."

Beyond the bins is Around The Bay Deals, which sells Wayfair furniture on the store's Facebook group.

The page is almost four times the size of Carbonear's population — with over 16,000 members keeping an eye on new items for sale in their auction-like business.

"You can go online and EMT, and the first person to EMT is the one who gets it," McCarthy said.

The items come from Amazon or other online retailers. Returned clothing, coffee machines, diaper genies and medical supplies. It’s all up for grabs at this Carbonear business.

McCarthy says people from all across Newfoundland have visited her store, and there are plans to expand.

"We do have people that want to open one up in [Conception Bay South]. So there will definitely be one going in C.B.S. soon," she said.
