The RCMP says a man was arrested and charges are pending in relation to threats he allegedly made against Fish, Food and Allied Workers staff at a meeting on the Burin Peninsula in November.

The arrest comes after an incident at an FFAW meeting in Fortune on Nov. 1, when fish harvester Wayne Meade told a FFAW representative that he would "knock his head off and shit down his neck."

Meade later told CBC he regretted making the comments, but insisted they were not meant to be taken literally.

Charges not officially laid

"I can confirm that a man was arrested and released for a later court date," said Cpl. Trevor O'Keefe in an email to CBC News on Thursday.

"Charges are pending but have not been officially laid yet."

O'Keefe wouldn't confirm if the charge is against Wayne Meade.

Members of the FFAW said Meade was wearing a Federation of Independent Seafood Harvesters [FISH-NL] hat at the Nov. 1 meeting, when he "pounded on the table" and threatened "bloodshed."

FISH-NL head Ryan Cleary later disavowed Meades's comments, and said they do not represent the breakaway union.
