Snowmobile racers in Labrador will be taking a different route than planned in this year's Cain's Quest.

The extreme cold is forcing organizers of the endurance race to reroute competitors.

Organizers said severe weather has created safety risks along the originally plotted route.

Now, when teams leave Nain they will travel back along the coast of Labrador instead of heading to Churchill Falls through the interior.

There will be a mandatory stopover in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, before snowmobilers head west.
