Teen seriously injured in assault at Drummondville, Que., high school
Police have arrested a suspect, a minor, in connection with assault
Quebec provincial police are investigating after a teenager was assaulted at Marie-Rivier Secondary School in Drummondville, Que., Saturday afternoon.
Police were called around 1 p.m. to the school on Saint-Félix Street, where a basketball tournament was taking place.
The victim was transported to hospital with serious injuries, according to Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesperson Camille Savoie.
The suspects had already fled the scene when officers arrived, Savoie said. The SQ believes the assault was targeted and that multiple people were involved.
Savoie could not confirm whether a weapon was used.
Investigators are currently gathering witness statements, Savoie said. Several people of interest were identified and will meet with investigators shortly, she said.
Sunday, provincial police confirmed that they had arrested a minor in connection with the incident. Investigators are meeting with the minor and will detain them until they appear in court. The SQ would not confirm when they arrested the minor, and a court date has yet to be determined.
The tournament, which gathered kids from local elementary schools, continued as normal and ended around 4 p.m., the school board's director of communications, Normand Page, told Radio-Canada.
