Quebec prosecutors have charged two men with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 62-year-old man Friday in Quebec City's Beauport borough.

The suspects are Nathan Tshimanga, 18, and Mathieu Quinio, 31, according to the charge sheet. Police say they appeared at a Quebec City courtroom Saturday morning via video conference.

They were arrested along with a third suspect — a 40-year-old man — after police intercepted their vehicle on a Quebec City highway Friday. The oldest man was released on an undertaking and is expected to appear in court tomorrow.

Officers received a 911 call around 2:25 p.m. Friday about a man who was shot on des Chutes Boulevard in a rooming house, according to Service de police de la Ville de Québec (SPVQ.)

First responders attempted to resuscitate the victim before transporting him to hospital where he was declared dead.

About 15 minutes later, officers intercepted the vehicle transporting the accused on Henri-IV Boulevard South and arrested all three passengers.

The homicide is linked to organized crime, according to SPVQ spokesperson Pierre-Olivier Lévesque.

The man's death marks the first homicide in Quebec City this year.

Tshimanga and Quinio will return to court on March 14.
