2 more teens charged in fatal Winnipeg stabbing last November
6 boys alleged to have assaulted 27-year-old Peter Filip in West Alexander neighbourhood on Nov. 11
Winnipeg police have charged two more youths in connection to the fatal stabbing of a man in Winnipeg's West Alexander neighbourhood last November, according to a Thursday news release.
Peter Filip, 27, had been standing outside a vendor on Arlington Street on Nov. 11 around 2 a.m. when a group of six boys confronted him, police previously said. Filip was struck with a sawed-off rifle and fatally stabbed.
Two boys who were at large since the incident have now been arrested — a 14-year-old on Jan. 11, and a 16-year-old, who was 15 at the time of the incident, on Wednesday.
The 16-year-old was charged with manslaughter and robbery, while the 14-year-old was charged with robbery and firearm offences, police said.
Four other youths — two 14-year-olds, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old — were arrested last December in connection to the case, and charged with manslaughter.
The names of all six accused youths are not being released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act's privacy policy.
Investigators said that while fleeing the scene on Nov. 11, four of the accused assaulted and robbed a group of three other boys at gunpoint, near Logan Avenue and Tecumseh Street. One of the victims was taken to hospital with an upper-body injury, police said.
The group of four then attempted to rob a 28-year-old-man of his vehicle after asking for a ride near Salter Street and Burrows Avenue. They youths pulled a knife on the unsuspecting driver, beat him and attempted to shoot him, but the gun misfired, and the man managed to grab the sawed-off rifle and retake control of his vehicle.
The man sustained an upper-body injury but didn't require medical attention.
