A former Winnipeg teacher faces new charges of child pornography and child luring after a police investigation into sexual exploitation of girls age 12 to 17 last year.

Matthew James Mousseau, 37, was charged Wednesday with making, printing, publishing or possessing material for the purpose of publishing child pornography, luring a minor via telecommunication, two counts of sexual interference, and supplying alcohol to a minor, a news release said on Friday.

Mousseau was charged previously with sexual assault, sexual exploitation, making, printing, publishing or possessing child pornography for the purpose of publication, indecent exposure, luring, voyeurism and supplying liquor to a minor.

Mousseau was charged with the five new offences while in custody at the Headingley Correctional Centre.

Police allege he sexually victimized four girls over a period from January to September last year. Three of the girls were students in a program with Mousseau as their mentor. The fourth girl knew him from outside school.

Police also allege he made video recordings in April 2023 and May 2024 of children and adults in various stages of undress in the family change room of a public pool in the city's Maples neighbourhood.

He remains in custody, police said.

Police have not indicated which schools or school divisions were involved.

Mousseau, who was not a certified teacher, worked as the Winnipeg School Division's Indigenous way of life teacher from 2021 until he resigned on May 7, 2024.

The Winnipeg Police Service said anyone who wants to speak to an investigator can call 204-986-6245 or make a report online at cybertip.ca.
