Cochrane RCMP arrested a Springbank Community High School teacher on Tuesday, charging him with several sexual offences.

Police are investigating Timothy Bailey, 49, after a female student reported inappropriate behaviour. Bailey, a math teacher who instructs grade 10, 11 and 12 students, was charged with child luring, making sexually explicit material available to a child and sexual exploitation.

RCMP said Bailey was released on conditions and will appear at the Alberta Court of Justice on Feb. 18 in Cochrane. Police added the investigation is ongoing and they are seeking to speak with more people about Bailey.

Springbank Community High School is located just west of Calgary and is operated by Rocky View Schools.

Cpl. Gina Slaney of the Alberta RCMP noted the investigation came together very quickly on Tuesday.

"It all happened very fast, the investigation happened very fast. It was reported yesterday and Mr. Bailey was arrested yesterday," Slaney told CBC News on Wednesday.

Rocky View Schools (RVS) said on Wednesday it was made aware of the RCMP investigation when Bailey was taken into custody. The school board said it had employed Bailey since 2003. He worked at Springbank Community High School throughout his employment.

The school board added it is fully co-operating with the RCMP investigation.

"RVS has placed Bailey on unassigned duties and he is prohibited from being on any Rocky View School property at any time effective immediately," Superintendent of Schools Greg Luterbach said in a statement on Wednesday.

Luterbach added that school-based and divisional supports will be available for Springbank students for as long as they need them.
