The assault of a man in a North End neighbourhood of Winnipeg is now a homicide investigation.

Police were called to a house on Magnus Avenue, between Andrews and McGregor streets, around 3 p.m. Tuesday. They found a man who was seriously injured, a police spokesperson told CBC News at that time.

On Thursday, police said the man was Matthew Robert Pelletier, 35, and clarified that he was found dead inside the home.

It's the third homicide in the William Whyte area in the past two weeks.

Sheldon Derrach Catcheway, 33, and Shanastene Irene McLeod, 35, were found dead in a home on Alfred Avenue, off Aikins Street, on Feb. 15. Both were shot.

No arrests have been made in connection with their deaths.

An autopsy is pending to determine the exact cause of Pelletier's death, police said.
