35-year-old in hospital after shooting himself while kidnapping another man, RCMP say
Man and woman kidnapped 3rd person and were holding him outdoors in Gods Lake Narrows, police say
A 35-year-old man is in hospital in Winnipeg after he shot himself as he and a woman kidnapped another man in northeastern Manitoba on Monday, RCMP allege.
The 35-year-old and a 28-year-old woman kidnapped a man, 28, they knew at gunpoint and took him to an outdoor location in Gods Lake Narrows, where they all live, RCMP said in a news release on Friday.
They were holding him when the 35-year-old shot himself, police said.
The shooting was reported to Gods Lake Narrows RCMP around 8 a.m. the same day.
Officers who responded to the call found the 35-year-old alleged kidnapper with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to Winnipeg for treatment, where he's now in stable condition in hospital, RCMP said Friday.
The man who was kidnapped was not injured, police said.
The 35-year-old and the woman are charged with kidnapping with a firearm and forcible confinement. The woman, who was not injured, is being held in custody.
Police expect to lay additional charges, the news release said.
