Two men have been arrested and charged with arson after a former band office in a northeastern Manitoba First Nations community went up in flames Monday afternoon.
RCMP from Gods Lake Narrows responded to a report of two men causing a disturbance at the former office at about 1:30 p.m., RCMP said in a news release Wednesday.
The report said one man was armed with a weapon and threatening to light the structure on fire.
When Mounties arrived, the office was already on fire. Local fire crews put out the flames, RCMP say.
The building, which was used for storage and held historical records, is likely "a total loss," according to the Mounties.
RCMP arrested and charged a 39-year-old Gods Lake Narrows man with arson and uttering threats to a property.
A 45-year-old man from Crane River First Nation was also arrested and charged with arson, possession of a weapon and possession of incendiary material.
